Compare Used Nissan Rogue Model Years at Berlin City Nissan

April 30th, 2021 by

The Nissan Rogue made its debut in 2007 to compete against popular SUVs such as the Honda CR-V and the RAV4. Its design closely mimicked that of the Nissan Murano but has evolved over the years to become a stylish and worthy competitor in the compact crossover SUV sector.
Just like any car, the Nissan Rogue had some problem areas to iron out in its early years. Continue reading to learn which models to consider and which to avoid.
Used Nissan Rogue Reliability Guide
Early Problems
The most notable concerns with the Rogue historically stem from transmission problems. Between 2008 and 2013, several Rogue owners experienced loss of acceleration while others reported transmission failure. According to carcomplaints.com, the 2013 Rogue had the highest number of incidents with 85 reported transmission problems. For this reason, the 2013 model is considered by many to be the least reliable model year.
A Fresh Start
In order to address these growing concerns, the Rogue underwent a massive redesign both mechanically and externally. Nissan released a new generation of Rogues starting with the 2014 model.
A new, Xtronic CVT transmission replaced the standard CVT transmission and was paired with a 2.5L engine. This change drastically lowered the number of reported transmission problems but there were still a number of reported complaints regarding the HVAC system and external paint.
The number of reported complaints continued to decrease after the 2014 redesign which gave Nissan the opportunity to give the Rogue a much needed facelift in 2016. Daytime Running Lights, LED tail lights, and an updated chrome grille modernized the exterior while a 7” touchscreen infotainment display and 3rd-row split-folding bench seat made the cabin more luxurious and versatile.
Most Reliable Models
Due to the modern exterior and the lower levels of complaints or recalls, any Rogue made between 2016 to 2020 would be an excellent choice. Of these model years, the 2017 and 2019 models have the fewest recorded complaints. If you purchase a used Nissan Rogue between 2016 and 2020, rest assured you’re buying a safe and reliable car and focus instead on the specific design, tech, and performance features you prefer.
